What makes us different? Our core values

Inclusive: We value diversity, respect people, and are committed to equality and non-discrimination.

Accessible: We offer autism friendly quality services.

Responsive and dependable: We embrace a user-centered, strength-based approach in service provision.

Creating autism awareness

In line with Article 8 of the United Nations Convention on the rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) goal of awareness raising outlined;

  • To raise awareness throughout society and at the family level, regarding persons with disabilities, and to foster respect for their rights and dignity.
  • To combat stereotypes, prejudices and harmful practices, in all areas of their life;
  • To promote awareness of their capabilities and contributions.

Provision of psycho-social support

In line with the World Health Organization (WHO) goal of promotion of parent’s support groups in the “Comprehensive and coordinated efforts for the management of autism spectrum disorders” that takes note of the Burden of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

  • Autism spectrum disorders impose a huge emotional and economic burden on families.
  • Caring for children with these disorders is demanding, especially in contexts where access to services and support are inadequate.
  • Worldwide, most individuals with such a ASD and their families do not receive any care from health or social care systems.

Promoting wellbeing of persons with ASD

The main goal is Advocacy: supporting, defending, or arguing for the Autism cause. This is meant to;

  • Bring about change, through raising public awareness, increasing support, and/or influencing policy.
  • Strengthen capacity and empower parents, caregivers and persons with ASD to overcome barriers (Physical, attitudinal, cultural etc.).

DTSK seeks partnerships with other like-minded organizations in order to support and advocate for persons with ASD.

Linkages helps in supporting capacity building through exchange of information, sharing experiences and best practices. Advocate for accessibility and inclusivity.

Sharing information, ideas and opportunities that bring out the best in persons with Autism.

This is in line with Article 19 of the CRPD that emphasizes that Persons with Disabilities should be supported to live independently. The CRPD recognizes the equal right of all persons with disabilities to live in the community, with choices equal to others, and be included and fully participate in all spheres.
